چکیده

Rifampicin, a semisynthetic antibiotic, is known to inhibit the bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase (1), the growth of some animal viruses (2), and the focus formation induced by oncogenic viruses (3, 4). While certain derivatives of rifampicin can inhibit the RNA-dependent DNA polymerase activity of oncogenic viruses, and a similar activity found in normal and virus-transformed cells (5-7), rifampicin itself, when tested in vitro, has no effect on the mammalian DNAdependent RNA polymerases (I) . Nevertheless, toxicity of the drug for some cell lines has been reported (8) . Recently, rifampicin has been shown to

Different Expressions of Specific Transcription Factors of Th1 (T-bet) and Th2 cells (GATA-3) by Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells From Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory disorder caused by self-reactive Th1 lymphocytes, while Th2 cells may confer protection. The Th1 and Th2 cell differentiation are regulated by specific transcription factors, especially T-bet and GATA-3, respectively. This investigation aimed to measure the T-bet and GATA-3 expression by Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) obtained...

Modulation of in vitro proliferation and cytokine secretion of human lymphocytes by Mentha longifolia extracts

Objective: Mentha longifolia L. Hudson has been used in folk medicine for various purposes especially for its anti-inflammatory effects. Lymphocytes play a central role in development of inflammation. In the present study, we investigated the immunomodulatory effects of different extracts of M. longifolia on human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs), as main players in development of inflammati...

The Influence of Iron Loading and Iron Chelation on the Proliferation and Telomerase Activity of Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

Background: Iron is an essential trace element in cell proliferation. Several investigations demonstrate that iron deprivation inhibits cell proliferation. However, the impact of iron on telomerase activity of activated lymphocytes remains unexplained to date. Objective: In this study, the effect of iron on the proliferation and telomerase activity of lymphocytes stimulated by phytohemagglutini...

Imidoester inhibition of lymphocyte DNA synthesis.

Imidoesters amidinate free amino groups and produce inter- and intramolecular covalent bonds. To determine whether imidoesters influenced lymphocyte transformation, human peripheral blood or calf lymph node lymphocytes were cultured with dimethyladipimate (DMA), a bifunctional (cross-linking) imidoester, or methyl acetimidate (MAC), a monofunctional (noncross-linking) imidoester. Both DMA and M...

Steroid hormone receptors in normal human lymphocytes. Induction of glucocorticoid receptor activity by phytohemagglutinin stimulation.

The presence of specific steroid hormone receptors in human lymphocytes was investigated in unstimulated and phytohemagglutinin-stimulated glass wool column-purified peripheral blood lymphocytes. Specific steroid binding in intact cells was determined by a whole cell competitive binding assay. Non-phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes had about 2700 specific glucocorticoid binding sites per...
